PT Suri Tani Pemuka (STP) in collaboration with the Simalungun District Government (Pemkab) distributes ready-to-use tilapia broodstock to the People’s Hatchery Unit (UPR) around the company’s operational area.

This effort was made as a form of STP’s contribution in improving the quality of tilapia seeds produced by UPR, especially in the Kab. Simalungun. The total brooders given reached 4,000 heads, consisting of 1,000 males and 3,000 females, with a weight range of 300-450 grams/head.

H.Zonny Waldi, Vice Regent of Simalungun welcomed the initiative by STP. According to him, this not only helps increase farmer productivity but is a good momentum for UPR to be able to produce higher quality fish seeds, so as to increase their selling power.

It is said, the Simalungun Regency Government has appointed 28 People’s Hatchery Units (UPR) that will receive assistance, based on predetermined criteria. The tilapia parent assistance is being distributed starting today Friday (18/2) and is targeted to be completed on the coming Thursday (24/2).

With the help of these elders, it is hoped that UPR will be able to produce quality seeds, which of course can provide benefits for fish farmers in terms of a sustainable economy. We hope that in the future they can expand to a wider market,” added Zonny.

Meanwhile, Deputy Head of STP Operations for Tilapia, Imam Santoso explained, as a farming company, his party is committed to developing with all levels of society, in this case especially the tilapia hatcheries in Kab. Simalungun.

One of the efforts made is the rejuvenation of tilapia broodstock, in order to improve the quality of the seeds produced by the UPR. STPs that have pure tilapia lines will distribute ready-to-use tilapia broodstock in a ratio of 1:3, between males and females.

Imam further said that it was hoped that the provision of this mother would also help improve the genetics of the seeds that would be cultivated by the community.
